    Het is niet mogelijk om de 'stand-alone' soundtrack op de Blu-ray in zijn geheel af te spelen. Iedere muziektrack moet individueel worden aangeklikt vanuit een menu daarom teruggestuurd.

    La planète sauvage est un film d'animation de science-fiction déjà ancien (1973), tourné à l'époque avec des moyens qui nous paraissent rudimentaires aujourd'hui, mais dont se dégage une magie indéfinissable. On est marqué durablement par ce film, que l'on soit enfant ou adulte.

    Pourquoi ? Sans doute parce qu'il évoque davantage les choses qu'il ne les montre et qu'il nous confronte à tout moment à notre condition humaine, à travers le traitement des Oms par les Draags.

    Ce film envoûtant nous renvoie à notre condition humaine à un double titre : nous nous sentons naturellement solidaires des Oms dans leur lutte pour s'affranchir des Draags et échapper à leurs terribles campagnes de déshominisation mais en même temps, le traitement des Oms par les Draags nous fait réfléchir à notre propre attitude par rapport au monde animal.

    La planète sauvage a été a été couronnée à juste titre par le prix spécial du jury à Cannes en 1973.

    Le film ne dure que 72 minutes et son Le synopsis est simple. Sur la planète Ygam vivent des géants Draags. Leurs animaux de compagnie sont des hommes en provenance de la planète Terra, les Oms. Quelques enfants Draags jouent et tuent une jeune mère Om en s'amusant. Son bébé est recueilli par la fille d'un haut dignitaire Draag, Tina, qui le baptise Terr.
    Le petit Om et la jeune Tina sont inséparables. Par Hasard, Terr parvient à se brancher sur les leçons de Tina et apprend le langage et les connaissances des Draags.
    A l'adolescence, il s'enfuit avec l'appareil pédagogique de Tina et rejoint les Oms sauvages qui vivent dans un parc.
    Il y tombe amoureux et doit faire ses preuves, et affronter une gigantesque et terrible campagne de déshominisation.

    Réalisé par René Laloux, auteur de plusieurs des meilleurs films d'animation français, sur des dessins de Roland Topor, La planète sauvage a été produit en grande partie à Prague.
    René Laloux explique de façon très chaleureuse dans différentes interviews figurant dans les bonus des DVD ses démêlés avec Topor et les vicissitudes de la production en Tchécoslovaquie.

    Le film est inspiré d'un roman de science-fiction français, Oms en série, écrit par le romancier français Stéphane Wul. Le roman, écrit dans une très belle langue, dégage la même magie que le film. Souvent recommandé dans les collèges et les lycées, notamment lors de la sortie du film, le livre a marqué beaucoup de personnes, dont votre serviteur.

    First off let me make this clear: I am reviewing the 2016 CRITERION COLLECTION RELEASE OF FANTASTIC PLANET. Not the VHS, Beta, LD, VCD, Blu-Ray or some earlier DVD release. And the DVD I hold in my hands was manufactured in Mexico this year. (2019)

    Half of the reviews here state that you, "Can't turn the subtitles off.." NONSENSE! I sat watching this great movie for the whole 72 minutes with the English Audio on and the SUBTITLES OFF and there were NO SUBTITLES.
    Maybe there was a manufacturing problem with this DVD upon initial release. This sometimes happen but it isn't anymore. Or maybe some people don't know how to use a DVD menu. Most likely it was an authoring problem.

    The laymen who don't work in the business as I do don't realize that there is a very big difference between a DVD+R DL that you burn at 16× speed for your friend and a DVD you buy in the stores. Commercial DVDs and Blu-Rays are manufactured to high standards. A lot is expected of them. But occasionally things can go wrong in authoring or duplication. But when people call/email in and complain about disk problems as big as "I can't turn the subtitles off!" they listen. They do not ignore. But of course they are not going to put out a new release. Criterion doesn't have to! They just do a recall for that title, correct the authoring error and then put out the corrected disk. This does not require "putting out a new title." This reminds me of people who order a season of thier favorite TV show via Amazon and then blame the distributor for the condition of the disks. They just sell the DVD. They don't make them and they don't inset the disks in the box or shrink rap it either. Even a 10 year old could figure this out. And yet you see a review for a movie that says, "This disk came damaged so I will never order from Barney234 again!" Huh?! They order it from the video company who makes it and then ship it out when someone orders it. Barney234 gets it shrink wrapped or sealed.

    And as for the subtitles themselves - they are exactly where they should be. Right at the bottom. As for the subtitles being over the animation it's a 1.66:1 ratio movie. No matter where the subtitles go they will go over the animation. You can only put subtitles out of the picture when the ratio is 2.20:1 or more. 1.66:1 has small bars at the side. This is the standard European wide screen ratio since the late 50's.

    In a nutshell IGNORE THE OTHER REVIEWS. None of what they say applies to this title that is put out now. Maybe last year there was a problem...Who knows. But not now.
    Plenty of extras, great picture quality from a new 2k transfer, and a nice poster too.

    This film is an impressive reminder of how captivating and beautifully natural sketch animations are. I was impressed from start to finish. Having an eye for art i could really appreciate the sheer effort and planning of the entire art form.

    The plot development is lacking somewhat, the main character's childhood is over extensive, and alot of 'mini' scenes in which humans (or 'Oms') are repeatedly portrayed as pets by the aliens could have been reduced or removed entirely. The time consumption of these scenes seem to cut short the plot and critical scenes, leaving a rushed second half and leaving alot of the grey areas to the imagination.
    The ending, of which i wont divulge for fear of spoiling this great film for anyone, is regrettably short and wraps up too quickly, and left me puzzled and somewhat dissapointed. The finale is a scene of massive impact, but is not explained thoroughly.

    Imaginative, humerous, dark and yet lighthearted in many respects, the film provides alot of diversity for viewers. The alien landscape is especially interesting and the ideas for the creatures, plants and way of life are nothing short of amazing.

    The soundtrack really adds the required effect to eccentuate and add depth to alot of the film. The music has a strong 70's vibe to it, though this doesnt hinder viewing or ruin the atmos.

    I havent watched all the extras but they include some short films, i watched one and it was amusing, and retains the art style.

    Overall id say this is an amazing product of high creativity and imagination, method and skill. It is unique in most aspects.
    I wouldnt recommend it for kids below the age of eight as there moderately disturbing culling scenes and a fairly complicated infrastructure.

    Film fantascentifico come se ne vedono pochi. Visione interessantissima di un mondo popolato da creature giganti che tormentano gli umani, adottandoli come piccoli animaletti da compagnia.
    L’animazione si sposa benissimo con la storia e il film scorre via veloce.
    Si tratta dell’edizione inglese ma non é un edizione qualunque. Si tratta infatti dell’ottima collana “Eureka” famosa per portare film restaurati con una qualità superiore. Tra l’altro oltre al doppiaggio originale francese qui é presente anche il primo doppiaggio americano (quello che scelto per una mia padronanza inglese superiore a quella francese).
    Consigliatissimo
